I have spent most of my career working in pharmaceutical companies modeling biological systems—teaching myself to see patterns in data to predict how the potential drugs would behave in patients. Recently I turned this training on my own life to discover why along my life path that I did not feel happy or fulfilled. Along the way, I discovered that this training was working just as well for seeing or sensing my way through systemic illusions.

The purpose of starting this SubStack is for the introduction of this methodology in my own life as well as examining forces outside of my control. Looking at various factors such as technology, health, finances, education, spirituality, career and others enables one to maneuver into position to improve your chances for getting to your happiness.

You may wonder why the title of Fire in the Cave. Originally, the idea was to foster a friendly environment where we could talk out around the fire. The light in the center to set the right atmosphere and spark innovative worthwhile conversations. Like Prometheus stealing fire from the gods, this is about bringing tools that illuminate rather than control.

Then I came across the book by **Marchant**, ***The Human Cosmos:Civilization and the Stars***. Reading the insight that Paleolithic people may have not just painted animals important to the tribes survival, but they may have painted stars to talk to the herds coming over time. Teaching the young about what to expect and to prepare when the time was right. The bigger picture is that somehow pattern recognition was discovered and taught to ensure that the tribe had the best chance of survival.

The other fractal is the story from Plato. The prisoners in the cave being taught the outside world via shadows controlled by their jailers. One prisoner escaped to the outside world. Discovered that they were lied to. Went back to free the others and now worried about his survival because they did not believe.

Hence, the atmosphere of the fire in the cave. Looking for truth not from the shadows generated, but by the fire illuminating the truth of the patterns that we paint on the walls. Looking to find mine, yours and hopefully our truth. Telling the stories that help to ensure our ability to navigate these times and ultimately find your true self in the process.

I felt compelled to start this SubStack because I see humanity at a standing wave—what many call a crossroads. Where we find ourselves at this moment:

- Expenses and costs that have really made it difficult to afford what previous generations took for granted like housing, autos, education and others.
- Following the rules of the system but promises were not kept with expenses, jobs and opportunities not appearing.
- Going after your attention through the gamification of systems that we interact with
- Challenges with lots of changes occurring in the collective that causes anxiety and uncertainty about your future.

I originally thought like others that old systems were breaking down, forcing us toward a new path. But crossroads were built by Romans and kings long dead. When you only get to choose what others have built, it may look like change, but you’re still a user on someone else’s platform.

Looking again at some of the forces also hitting at the time like AI or large language models, blockchain and other new technologies that have been emerging. These also can be liberating for everyone.

The choice isn’t between two manufactured paths. It’s between accepting someone else’s design or learning to recognize your own patterns—and following where they lead. Not heaven on earth. Just alignment. Just movement that’s actually yours.

Essentially, we can be shepherded onto a new path created by others or break away to a blue ocean of opportunities. A new chance to choose your path in this new world.

**We’ll explore concrete questions like:** \- Why expenses keep rising while promised prosperity fades - How systems gamify your attention—keeping you engaged but not empowered - Why understanding collective forces matters for positioning yourself - How to become multilingual: spiritual/scientific/financial/psychological as convergent themes, not competing worldviews.

**This isn’t eclecticism—it’s rigorous pattern recognition.** In PK/PD modeling (pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic), I learned to let the data relationships dictate the math for predicting how a drug behaves in humans, not the other way around. You never know which domain will unlock the pattern you’re looking for.

**And everyone’s recall is different.** We’ve all gone through different environments. We remember different things and tie meaning to them differently. Our internal ontologies—our frameworks for what’s even possible—are built from those unique associations. What unlocks a pattern for me might not work for you. I’m not preaching one framework above the others. I’m showing you how to become multilingual so you can find what resonates.

## What’s Coming in Future Posts

**First, the methodology—how the sausage is made.** I’ll show you how I’m discovering my own patterns—the cycles, the standing waves, the moments I thought everything was changing.

**Full transparency:** I’ve changed careers multiple times thinking I was escaping standing waves. Only later did I realize I was just moving to different pockets within the same wave. Corporate to startup to consulting—it looked like movement, but I was still trapped in the same fundamental pattern.

But this time I have tools to see what I’m actually doing. And for the first time, I’m attempting genuine escape—my own blue ocean, not just a new pocket in someone else’s system. I’m still struggling, like the vast majority of us. But now I can see the pattern of the struggle itself. You’re watching the methodology work in real time—not from the finish line, but from the trenches.

**Then, the tools.** How to run your own n=1 experiment. How to find your biomarkers. How to recognize convergent evidence. How to see your invisible gorilla.

**Finally, the bigger picture.** The same pattern recognition that reveals personal standing waves also reveals systemic ones. We’ll look at education, finance, media, geopolitics—anywhere manufactured motion masquerades as progress.

Same fire. Different scales.

Come sit. Let’s figure out together which of our movements are real—and which are just echoes of someone else’s design.
